Fencing & Groundworks in West Sussex
Fence installation, gate fitting, groundwork, repairs and post & rail fencing, supplied and fitted across West Sussex.
Fence Installation in West Sussex
Timber and metal fencing supplied and fitted for gardens, driveways and boundaries, dug in and set true.
What's included
- Posts set in concrete
- Panels, boards or rails fitted level
- Old fencing removed and taken away
- Ground made good after digging
- Gates added where needed
I start by marking out the run and checking the ground - roots, drains and slopes all change how deep the posts need to go and how the fence needs to sit. Holes are dug to a proper depth and posts set in concrete so the fence stays upright through wind and wet ground.
Once the posts are firm, panels, boards or rails go on level along the run, with gravel boards fitted where the ground isn't flat. Any old fencing gets pulled out and taken away, and the ground's made good before I leave, so there's nothing left for you to clear up.

Gate Fitting in West Sussex
Timber and metal gates measured, hung and fitted to match your fencing and keep the garden secure.
What's included
- Gates measured to the opening
- Hung on new or existing posts
- Hinges and latches fitted
- Gates adjusted to close properly
- Matched to existing fencing
Every gate gets measured to the actual opening rather than a standard size, so it fits without gaps a pet could get through. Whether it's going on new posts alongside a fence or replacing an old gate on posts that are already there, I check they're solid enough to hang it on before fitting.
The gate's hung square, hinges and latch fitted properly, and I check it swings and closes on its own without catching or dragging. If it's matched to an existing fence I'll keep the timber and finish consistent so it looks like it belongs there.

Groundworks in West Sussex
Site clearance, levelling and ground preparation ahead of fencing, sheds, patios or bigger building work.
What's included
- Site and ground clearance
- Levelling and grading
- Old fencing or structures removed
- Ground prepared for new footings
- Materials and spoil removed
Before anything new goes in, the ground usually needs sorting first - overgrown boundaries cleared, old fencing or structures taken down, and the site levelled off so whatever's going up next has something solid to sit on.
I take away whatever comes off site as part of the job, so you're not left with a pile of spoil or old timber to deal with. Where groundwork's ahead of another job - a shed base, a patio, new fencing - I'll leave the ground ready to go.

Close Board Fencing in West Sussex
Feather-edge boards fixed to arris rails and concrete posts for a solid, private boundary that stays straight.
What's included
- Concrete posts and gravel boards
- Feather-edge boards, close fitted
- Arris rails fixed between posts
- Boards trimmed to fit the run
- Old fencing removed
Close board is built up in layers - concrete posts set first, then arris rails fixed between them, and feather-edge boards nailed on close together so there's no gap to see through. Gravel boards go along the bottom to keep the timber off the ground and stop it rotting early.
Runs are measured and boards trimmed to fit properly at the ends and around any obstacles, rather than leaving an odd gap at the finish. Old fencing's removed as part of the job and the site's left tidy once the last board's up.

Fence Repairs in West Sussex
Broken panels, snapped posts and leaning sections put right without replacing a fence that's still good.
What's included
- Broken panels replaced
- Snapped or rotten posts renewed
- Leaning sections straightened and reset
- Gravel boards replaced where rotten
- Fencing re-secured and tightened
Most fences fail in one or two spots rather than all at once - a post that's rotted at ground level, a panel that's blown out, or a run that's started leaning after wet weather. I have a look at what's actually failed before deciding whether it needs a repair or a full replacement.
Rotten posts are dug out and replaced, panels swapped like for like, and anything leaning gets straightened and reset properly rather than just propped back up. Where it's a straightforward fix, it's usually done in a single visit.

Post & Rail Fencing in West Sussex
Timber posts and rails put up for paddocks, fields and open boundaries across rural West Sussex.
What's included
- Posts set at even spacing
- Rails fixed level along the run
- Fencing suited to livestock or boundary use
- Gates added at access points
- Timber treated for outdoor use
Post and rail suits open ground - paddocks, field boundaries and larger plots where a close board fence isn't needed or practical. Posts are set at even spacing along the run and dug in deep enough to hold against livestock or just general wear over time.
Rails are fixed level along the posts, and treated timber's used throughout so it holds up outdoors. Gates are added wherever you need access, and the run's checked for line and level before I finish up.

Artificial Grass in West Sussex
Low-maintenance artificial lawns laid on a properly prepared base, so they drain well and stay flat for years.
What's included
- Old turf dug out and removed
- Compacted sub-base and levelling
- Weed membrane laid
- Grass fitted with tight, neat joins
- Edges fixed and finished
Before anything new goes in, the ground usually needs sorting first - overgrown boundaries cleared, old fencing or structures taken down, and the site levelled off so whatever's going up next has something solid to sit on.
I take away whatever comes off site as part of the job, so you're not left with a pile of spoil or old timber to deal with. Where groundwork's ahead of another job - a shed base, a patio, new fencing - I'll leave the ground ready to go.
