Every gate gets measured to the actual opening rather than a standard size, so it fits without gaps a pet could get through. Whether it's going on new posts alongside a fence or replacing an old gate on posts that are already there, I check they're solid enough to hang it on before fitting.
The gate's hung square, hinges and latch fitted properly, and I check it swings and closes on its own without catching or dragging. If it's matched to an existing fence I'll keep the timber and finish consistent so it looks like it belongs there.
