A good artificial lawn comes down to what's underneath it. I dig out the old turf, lay and compact a proper sub-base, level it off and put a weed membrane down before the grass goes on, so it drains well and doesn't sink or ripple.
It suits gardens that get churned up by kids or dogs, shady spots where real grass won't grow, or anyone who'd rather not spend weekends mowing. The joins are kept tight, the edges are fixed down firmly, and all the waste is taken away.
